When Jane Horrocks re-visits Sunday Best
As a Fearns High School schoolgirl Jane Horrocks would come into Sunday Best waiting for her mother Barbara who worked across the road in Holt & Longworth's solicitors office. She made us laugh at her antics of getting up on a school desk & impersonating Shirley Bassey with " Hey Big |Spender" & other songs that her parents played from the big artists. So natural, that the film "Little Voice" was written for her, to play alongside the very famous male lead Michael Caine. She did exceptionally well to get into Rada, who encouraged her to lose her Northern accent. True to her Rossendale roots she decided that the accent gave her a uniqueness & set her apart from other actresses. We did a double page shoot with her for the Manchester Evening News prior to Little Voice being launched & her elfin figure was so easy to dress.Besides lots of theatre work & being nominated for a Golden Globe award, she is also most memorable as Bubbles in "Ab Fab" & starring alongside Jennifer Saunders & Joanna Lumley must have been amazing fun.Recently Jane was "In Conversation: Jane Horrocks and Jamie Holman" the artist at The Whitaker Rawtenstall. She found time to pop into Sunday Best & I think she may have been secretly pleased to see that her picture was on a collage on the wall with other famous people that Sunday Best has worked with over the years. It was lovely to catch up with her again. She still looks young & elfin like & being famous has not changed her prospective on being normal. On Radio 4's Desert Island Discs she mentioned that small things give her pleasure, like pegging your washing out!
