A Star is Born at LFW - Meet Molly Goddard

Jan Shutt

PFW ended this week, bringing a close to Fashion Week around the world for another season. The Chanel show was the closing highlight with Lagerfeld's space age theme collection featuring futuristic fabrics, intertwined with the heritage black and white tweed. The general mood from the likes of Stella McCartney, Victoria Beckham et AL was that of empowering women, so with this in mind and after celebrating another International Women's Day earlier this week, it seems only fitting to share this story...

My personal highlight over the weeks has been meeting the designer Molly Goddard. She may not be a household name yet, but at 28, she is well on her way after her colourful and voluminous dresses stole the weeks' shows at LFW.

The day we encountered Molly was a day featuring some high profile shows - Versus (secondary collection from Italian fashion house Versace),  with a starry front row and big name models. House of Holland also showed on the Saturday (Henry Holland, our local celebrity from Edenfield), with his faithful tribe of It girls. But the anticipation and excitement was for the London designer, Molly Goddard, who has rocketed to prominence.

Her front row included key fashion editors including - Suzy Menkes, Alexandra Shulman and uber cool retailers included Colette (Paris) and Dover Street Market.

Agyness Deyn, (another Rossendale-born celebrity), wore Goddard when she was married last summer to Joel McAndrew. Rihanna is a big fan too and has been seen in a Goddard pink tulle mini dress. Actress Zawe Ashton also wore a gingham Goddard dress at the recent ELLE Style Awards.

Her hand writing is volume, colour and a frill odyssey.

Three years ago Goddard's first collection was made on a sewing machine in the family home for £50. Today the collections are produced in a factory in north London and sold to over 30 stores throughout the world.

On meeting her she was both modest and humorous. Willing to have her picture taken for this blog flashing her lovely mane of auburn hair and posing with wit and fun.

She has arrived and the story continues...
